Good Hope FM’s strong performance over the past three years has led station management to retain the already strong line-up and only implement minor changes to the on-air team from April 1.
The station had a long term strategy to develop and promote young on-air talent in the Mother City and also to increase listenership from 502 000 to 700 000. At the end of 2011 the station reached an audience of 745 000 listeners. It was decided to stabilise the positive growth and keep the line-up as it stands, as it is familiar to the station’s loyal audience.
“Good Hope FM prides itself on a programming style that offers appointment listening with unique offerings in each show, including inserts on lifestyle, a great music mix and exceptional personalities tied to each show.” says programme manager Gerard Muller.
Some new weekend shows will be introduced to keep the station’s sound fresh, though familiar to its audience.
Well known DJ and TV presenter, Loyiso Mdebuka (a.k.a. DJ Loyd) will join the brand new Freekin Weekend show on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (3pm to 6pm. The full team will consist of presenter Ebrahiem Inglis and co-presenters TK and DJ Lloyd – all in studio to create a lively and interactive show, with an Urban House and urban culture feel that will appeal to the station’s target market.
Sundays will have a more soulful appeal as Sunday mornings will now feature an R&B Top 30 chart show presented by Mixi from 9am to 12pm, followed by Sundays with Ian, a show featuring retro music from the 1990s, presented by Ian Ward from 12pm to 3pm.
The weekday line-up will remain unchanged with familiar slick, dynamic and quick witted presenters like Guy McDonald, Nigel Pierce, Ayanda Tini, SeanO and Ready D staying on in their regular shows, but with Stan Mars moving in behind the mic from 10pm to 2am from Monday to Thursday evenings with the new Tonite Show with Stan Mars.
Other favourite DJ’s like Tyrone Paulsen, Stephanie B, Makabongwe Tanga, Nosipo Tisani, Carl Wastie and Bradley Knight will still connect Capetonians to the lively sounds of Good Hope FM in their usual weekend slots. The Godfather of House, Dino Michael will furthermore be on air on Sunday evenings (10pm to 2am), bringing unique house offerings to end off the weekend.
